Madrid, July 29, 2011 -- We are most pleased to welcome Mr. Jan Menneken, as keynote speaker at the Forum on Sport, Business & Education, Tennis: “The Never Ending Business”, which takes place on Friday 9, September, with his talk:
Menneken’s professional background and career are impressive. He graduated from the Universities of Mannheim in Germany with a Business degree (Diplom Kaufmann) in Marketing and Organization and from CUNY in New York (Baruch College) with an MBA in Finance.
Jan worked for McKinsey & Co briefly in 1987 before joining the Bertelsmann Group becoming a Director with responsibility for Tennis, Golf and US Sports. He then worked with iconic tournaments and leagues, such as Wimbledon, the US Open Tennis and the NBA. In 1997, Jan joined the International Tennis Federation in London as Head of Television building up the TV Marketing Department and servicing all ITF properties including Davis Cup and Fed Cup.
In 1999, he became Executive Director Commercial of the ITF adding responsibility for all commercial activities of the ITF to his television remit including the development and commercial exploitation of all ITF brands, sponsorship sales for Davis Cup, Fed Cup, and all other ITF activities like men's tennis, women's tennis, junior tennis, wheelchair tennis, veteran's tennis and worldwide developmental activities.
The ITF is the world governing body of tennis, one of the few truly global sports.
The objective of the ITF is:
- to further grow and develop the sport worldwide
- to develop the game at all levels at all ages for both able-bodied and disabled men and women
- to make, amend and uphold the rules of the game
- to promote the International Team Championships and competitions of the ITF
- to preserve the integrity and independence of tennis as a sport
- to perform all without discrimination on grounds of colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, age, sex or religion
The ITF has 207 member National Associations - more than most other international sporting federations. Member nations come from every continent, and each association is involved in organising tennis and promoting the interests of the game.
